Etsy Find of the Week

September20

If you aren’t familiar with Esty, it is a website where you can buy and sell handmade or vintage items, art and supplies. Everything from jewelry to clothing, furniture to food can be purchased from sellers all over the world. There is even a whole section devoted to weddings. In an effort to support local vendors, each week I will feature a different seller from the New York City area.  If you have any favorite sellers, let me know!

Though extremely rough, there is something amazingly beautiful about the above ring and others by JanishJewels.  Check out all of the wonderful handmade designs in the collection.

The pictures in this book are just too funny, I had to share them with you. Though bridesmaid dresses have certainly gotten more fashionable and closer to what you might purchase for yourself, you still own the same dress that 5 of your friends also own. This makes it a little harder to wear the dress again. But I don’t think anything can be as bad as some of the dresses in the ‘ode to bridesmaids book, “You Can Wear it Again” by Meg Mateo Ilasco.

The spelling of my name is pretty unique and I very rarely see it in print unless it is in my inbox, so I get pretty excited when I see it elsewhere. These invitations, by letterpress artist and graphic designer, Alyson Graves Brown done for her own wedding probably would have caught my eye regardless, but the fact that we share a common spelling made them that much more wonderful for me. If you like what you see, check out her blog, Unruly Things, filled with lots of other wonderful treats for the eyes.

Special thank you to Oh So Beautiful Paper for this find.

This Weekend: Wine Tour

July30

whitecliff-winery

Looking to take advantage of what looks like is going to be a beautiful Saturday? How about a wine tour in the Hudson Valley. The Little Wine Bus picks you up and drops you off in Manhattan, drives you to 3 wineries and includes a barrel tasting, breakfast, lunch, dessert, afternoon snacks, a cellar tour, water, games, wine trivia and cheese & crackers. All this for $125 a person. There is also a Little Beer Bus for those who would rather imbibe in more carbonated malty beverages.

Welcome to the weekend!

Awhile back I posted about the Bumble and Bumble Beauty Bar in Bloomingdales and this weekend I finally had an opportunity to try it out. One half hour and $35 later I had a great updo and was ready to party the night away at a fabulous wedding. I did make an appointment and would recommend one if you plan on going at a busier time (like a Saturday night), though they say they aren’t necessary. They also do not allow tipping! For the convenience and price,  I might not wait until another wedding before going back for a blowout!

Going to an outdoor wedding this summer? Are you worried about sinking into the grass, or even worse, ruining your new heels? SoleMates are here to help. Push them onto the bottom of your heel and they create a larger surface area so you won’t sink into the grass. This also provides protection to the heel also, so you can hopefully wear them again!

Thought I would share these two wonderful wedding stories:

Chi-Town

Though I love NYC with all my heart, Chicago holds a small piece of it. Many of my close friends live there and I visited their great city many times. So when I saw this I had to share it with you (and of course because it featured such a fabulous tote bag!). 100 Layer Cake, a great blog I read, features guest bags for cities around the country. Each bag features unique treats from the area and some other fun items all placed in a Map Tote Bag. I love the idea of welcoming your out of town guests to your wedding and introducing them to what you love about your city.

On Record

July21

I think one the most common expenses people cut from wedding planning is the videographer. People often see it as a frivolous expense and a nuisance based on previous experience of having the videographer and his large camera in everyone’s way.  However, of all the things to spend a little money on, this might be one of the most valuable years down the road. Since the actual ceremony is truly the part you probably want to remember, but goes so fast it is all a blur, video is a great way to capture that moment.

Today there are lots of videographers that have much smaller cameras, smaller lights, and know how to stay out of the way, but still capture the important moments. Even still, many people say they will never watch the full four hour video, so what’s the point? Have your videographer make a 5 minute recap which highlights all the best moments, which can easily be viewed when you want to remember your special day.

On that note, here is my wedding recap, which was filmed three years ago today. Happy Anniversary to the best husband ever.

And a special thanks to Tim at Harold Hechler for doing such a great job capturing a wonderful day. He not only shot the film, but did the editing as well, so he truly knew what was really important and what was not. Tim stayed out of the way of my guests so well, that three of my friends hired him after seeing him work at our wedding.

I like to look everyday things in different ways and so do the photographers at Alphabet Art. Using photgraphs of objects that look like letters they create custom artwork displaying a name or inspirational words.  As recent winner of the Judge’s Choice award at the Randolph 38th Arts & Crafts Festival in Randolph, NY, these make great gifts. Especially if you are looking for something more personal than the blender on your friends wedding registry.
